The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is expected to announce his most radical ministerial reshuffle since he took office on January 7, 2017. According to our sources at Jubilee House, the announcement of the ministers’ lineup changes is slated for Wednesday, February 14, Valentine’s Day.

On Tuesday afternoon, a number of ministers who are anticipated to be impacted by the ministerial changes—as well as other MPs who stand to gain from them—moved to the fourth floor of Jubilee House.

The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, will receive the president’s list of ministerial appointments, as mandated by the 1992 constitution. The appointments will be made public on the floor of Parliament.

President Akufo-Addo will travel to Europe tomorrow, Valentine’s Day, for an official engagement in the Federal Republic of Germany. The list should be delivered to the Speaker tomorrow.

According to Asaase News sources close to the Presidency, up to 12 current substantive ministers of state could be affected, including ten cabinet ministers and two regional ministers.

According to Asaase News sources on the third and fourth floors of Jubilee House, several high-profile ministers of state will be removed from their positions. While some may be eliminated entirely, others are expected to be reshuffled.

It is also expected that approximately seven deputy ministers will lose their positions. Backbenchers from the majority side of the House are expected to benefit the most, with several taking up vacant seats.

According to other Jubilee House sources, President Akufo-Addo has spent the entire time available to him today meeting with all of the ministers and deputy ministers who may be shifting positions, leaving, or joining his government in the upcoming reshuffle.

According to Asaase News sources on the fourth floor of Jubilee House, there is talk of a possible reshuffle of the majority leaders in Parliament. According to one source, this change will occur following a meeting between the ruling New Patriotic Party’s leadership and the presidency, which is scheduled to take place soon.
