American actress and singer Maggie Thrett was born on November 18, 1946. She made her off-Broadway debut in 1962 at the age of 15 with Out Brief Candle. According to the January 1965 issue of Harper’s Bazaar, she began performing as a dancer at Trude Heller’s in Greenwich Village, New York, when she was 18 years old.
Thrett recorded “Lucky Girl” for Take 3 Records in 1964 as a performer. The following year, 1965, she changed her name to Maggie Thrett, and the song “Soupy,” which Bob Crewe produced and released on the DynoVoice label, became a minor US hit.
On July 15, 1965, journalist Aaron Sternfield lauded her “magnificent range, near-perfect phrasing and timing, and the ideal blend of sexuality and irony” in his review of a live performance at Basin Street East, New York.
When an automobile accident involving Thrett and singer-songwriter Gram Parsons occurred in May 1970, Thrett was a passenger on Parsons’ motorcycle. Thrett passed away on December 18, 2022, in Long Island, New York, at the age of 76.
