Luis Suarez has verified that he will not be joining the Argentinian side River Plate this summer after they were eliminated from the Copa Libertadores. It was drawn to our attention last month that River was leading the race to sign Suarez, who is available on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Atletico Madrid.
Speaking to Ovation, Suarez has now admitted that his move to River was close to completion but their surprise exit from the Copa Libertadores has now put an end to River’s hopes of getting a deal done.
I was very excited about the possibility of going to River to fight for the Copa Libertadores, he explained, It was a dream that I had to win a cup in South America. As River was eliminated, that possibility disappeared away. A month and a half ago I declared that I was not going to leave Europe, but River insisted and insisted so much that I came to consider it and there was a possibility.
