Lucia Faria was born on November 11, 1945, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her full name is Lúcia Faria Alegria Simões, and she is best known in sports as Lúcia de Faria, who competed in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico. She finished the individual show jumping competition in seventh place, a result that would take another Brazilian woman four decades to achieve.
Lúcia Faria relocated to Europe and helped to start building a successful history of Brazilian equestrianism on the Old Continent.
Lucia Faria started working as a designer of equestrian courses, a position known as course designer when she brought her athletics career to an end. She is survived by her husband and two children.
