On Valentine’s Day, Focus 1 Group Limited, the proprietors of Beach FM in Takoradi, showed the prisoners at Sekondi Central Prisons a heartfelt gesture of love and compassion by giving them a selection of necessities valued at over GH¢80k.
Its Adu-Mante Foundation, which has made it a yearly ritual to share love and lessen the struggles encountered by individuals inside the prison walls, made this possible.
Evelyn Adu-Mante, Director of Focus 1 Distribution, spoke on behalf of Focus 1 Group during the presentation and said the gesture embodies the genuine essence of Valentine’s Day.
Water, meal packs, drink cartons, and other necessities were donated this year. She continued, saying that for more than 15 years, this admirable custom has continued unerringly.
“We’re all here to show our love to our brothers and sisters in the Sekondi Prisons as the world celebrates the season of love today and Spice FM, one of our radio stations, celebrated its 11th anniversary. We are providing home-cooked hot meals, drinks, water, and chocolate to dine with the more than 800 of you in this room, just like we have been doing for the past 15 years,” she said.
Recognizing the value of healthcare for the prisoners, she also gave a GHS20,000 monetary donation to support the building of an infirmary on the prison grounds.
“We also want to build your infirmary, so we are donating a check for GHS 20,000 because we value your health.” The organization anticipates that the grant will make it easier for the infirmary to give the prisoners access to quality medical care,” she continued.
Abraham Allotey, the deputy director of Sekondi Prisons, accepted the donations on behalf of the prisoners and noted the significant influence that these actions had on their life.
