Nicholas Edward True, Baron True CBE (born 31 July 1951) is a British Conservative politician who has been the Lord Leader and Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal since September 2022.

True served in the Conservative Research Department from 1975 to 1982, as well as as an assistant to the Conservative Party’s Deputy Leader from 1978 to 1982.

From 1982 to 1986, he served as a special adviser to Norman Fowler, Secretary of State for Health and Social Security.

From 1986 until 1990, he was the Director of the Public Policy Unit. From 1991 to 1995, he was the Deputy Head of the Prime Minister’s Policy Unit before becoming a special adviser in the Prime Minister’s Office until the 1997 general election. Former Prime Minister John Major stated in his autobiography that True was his favorite speechwriter. In 1993, he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).

From 1997 until 2010, True worked as a private secretary to the Leader of the Opposition in the House of Lords and as the Director of the Opposition Whips’ Office. On December 23, 2010, he was appointed a life peer as Baron True of East Sheen, Surrey.

In the House of Lords in June 2021, he unveiled preparations for the Platinum Jubilee Civic Honours.
