Ghana’s popular actor, Kwadwo Nkansah, widely known as Lil Win, has found himself in hot water after being arrested by the Manhyia Divisional police command for his involvement in a tragic accident that claimed the life of a 3-year-old child.
The fatal incident occurred in Amakom, Kumasi, just hours before the premiere of Lil Win’s movie ‘A Country Called Ghana’ at the KNUST auditorium. The actor was immediately taken into custody as soon as he was discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Monday morning and is expected to face court proceedings.
Tragically, the 3-year-old victim, Richard Nana Yaw Ampomah, succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the hospital. The young boy was in the front passenger seat of his father’s vehicle when it collided with Lil Win’s branded Mercedes Benz. Eyewitnesses reported that the actor was driving at a high speed at the time of the crash.
Since the accident, Lil Win has been receiving treatment at the same hospital where the child passed away. His manager and personal guard are also currently hospitalized and receiving medical attention.
Meanwhile, the bereaved family has laid the young boy to rest, while his father, Jacob Ampomah, who sustained a leg injury in the accident, continues to undergo treatment at the hospital.
Following criticism from the deceased child’s family for allegedly neglecting the accident victims and proceeding with his movie premiere the same day, Lil Win released a statement refuting the claims. He insisted that he was attending to the other injured members of his crew and not ignoring the situation.
However, after realizing the insensitivity of his initial response, Lil Win issued an apology to the family and decided to postpone the premiere of his movie in Sunyani to show respect and solidarity in mourning with the grieving family.
The entire incident has cast a shadow over the actor’s career and personal life, sparking a wave of controversy and debate within the entertainment industry and among his fanbase.
