He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 19, 1992. Lil Durk, also known as Durk D. Banks, was up in the rough South Side Chicago neighborhood of Englewood.
Durk’s father was incarcerated when he was only seven months old. When Durk was a child, there were instances when there wasn’t enough food in his home.
Durk’s first big break came through social media, specifically sites like MySpace and YouTube when he was still quite young. At the age of 17, Durk became a parent for the first time and left Paul Robeson High School to join the Black Disciples, a street gang in Chicago.
Lil Durk released his first mixtape in 2011. Unfortunately, he was soon after apprehended for having firearms and put in jail. After being released a few months later, he started focusing again on his rap career.
He released a second mixtape in 2012 under the title “I’m Still a Hitta.” He began performing as a guest artist on other musicians’ tracks after his song “Sneak Dissin'” became successful, including Lil Reese, Fredo Santana, King Louie, and Chief Keef. He later released a second mixtape in 2012.
