Jones was born and reared in Atlanta, Georgia’s Oakland City area in the southwest. When his father abandoned the family, he was two years old.
He and his two sisters were reared by their mother. He committed to drug peddling and left Booker T. Washington High School in the ninth grade.

In 2017, after his mixtape Perfect Timing was released, he gained widespread recognition. His first studio album, Harder Than Ever (2018), produced the top 10 hit “Yes Truly” on the Billboard Hot 100. (with Drake).
In 2018, he released two additional mixtapes: Drip Harder (featuring Gunna), which peaked at #2 on the US Billboard 200 and included the track “Drip Too Hard,” which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was subsequently certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
My Turn (2020), his second studio album, debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and has been triple-platinum certified by the RIAA
