British actor Leslie French performed in both theatre and movies. His birthday is April 23, 1904. French was born in Kent’s Bromley.
He attended the London School of Choristers for his studies. He made his Little Theatre acting debut in a 1914 holiday production when he was still a small boy. He gave up his studies the following year to work as a stagehand and prompter for the travelling Ben Greet Company.
In addition to ballet, pantomime, musical revues, and the classics, French had a diverse career. In addition to being primarily a stage performer, he was also a dancer, singer, and director.
Over the years, he has played numerous ghosts and clowns from Shakespeare’s plays, including Puck, Feste, and Touchstone. However, it was when he played Ariel in William Shakespeare’s The Tempest that he became most well-known.
French occasionally dabbled in film and television, showing up in British television shows as well as Luchino Visconti’s The Leopard (1963) and Death in Venice (1971). These featured Z-Cars, The Singing Detective, Jason King, You Have Just Been Murdered from The Avengers, Armchair Theatre, Dixon of Dock Green, and The Singing Detective. Leslie French, unfortunately, passed away on January 21, 1999.
