Leslie Deans, a former chairman of Hearts, passed away at the age of 71, according to the organization.
He was a lifelong Jambos supporter who passed away last night in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary’s care following a brief illness. During his reign, Hearts won a historic Scottish Cup in 1998, bringing the first piece of silverware to Tynecastle since 1956. He was hired in the summer of 1994, and just before the year 2000, he resigned.
The Scottish Premiership team released a statement in which they stated that Leslie “was the epitome of a true Jambo” and that their “thoughts are with Leslie’s friends and family at this horribly sad time.” He was remembered by his brother, Jeffrey, as “a five-foot monster of a man,” by many.
“Leslie departed us in some style, full of amusing anecdotes, thinking of and thanking the enormous number of people who had touched his life and made it so lovely,” he added. “It is with regret and immense pride that I can tell that Leslie left us.
