Leslie Deans, a former chairman of HEARTS, has passed away after a brief illness, and the organization has paid respect to him.

Deans, who was in his 70s and purchased Wallace Mercer’s shares together with Chris Robinson, played a crucial part in the Jambos’ 1998 Scottish Cup victory over Walter Smith’s Rangers, winning 2-1.

It was the organization’s first trophy since 1956.

Leslie’s brother Jeffrey said:

“It is with sadness and immense pride that I can say that Leslie left us in some style, full of funny stories, thinking of and thanking all of the huge numbers of people who had touched his life and made it so wonderful…”

Hearts paid tribute to the “five foot monster of a man” Deans, an Edinburgh lawyer who passed away on the day of the club’s AGM at the age of 71, in a statement.

Only a few months had passed since the passing of his colleague director Robinson.
