A professional mixed martial artist from Britain, Leon Edwards was born in Jamaica. He is the current UFC Welterweight Champion and competes in the Welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Since 2011, Edwards has competed professionally. Prior to that, he was the bantamweight champion for BAMMA.
The title-holding MMA fighter currently resides at Erdington, Birmingham, England.
At UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs. Saint Preux on November 8, 2014, Edwards faced Claudio Silva in his UFC debut.
He knocked his opponent out eight seconds into the fight and lost by a split decision.
On July 18, 2015, Edwards and Pawel Pawlak squared off at UFC Fight Night 72. He prevailed by unanimous judgment in the match.
On October 22, 2020, the UFC withdrew Edwards from the UFC rankings owing to inactivity after a 425-day break since his fight with Rafael dos Anjos.
But a day later, it was revealed that he would have faced Khamzat Chimaev on December 19, 2020, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 183. Edwards officially tested positive for COVID-19 on December 1 and is said to have dropped twelve pounds as a result of the severity of his condition.
After two postponements, the match was finally set for January 20, 2021. Belal Muhammad was unable to continue when Edwards unintentionally poked him in the eye during the second round.
