The leadership of Organised labour has assured workers that it is in the process of meeting with President Akufo-Addo to address issues related to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The meeting is expected to discuss appointments onto the Board of SSNIT and the performance of its investments, which have not yielded much returns. Dr Yaw Baah, the Secretary-General of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), emphasized that they will be firm in their stance to reverse the sale agreement.
Workers have expressed concerns about the potential loss of their pension funds due to the happenings at SSNIT, but Dr Baah urged them to remain calm. He reassured workers that SSNIT will fulfill its obligation to pay their pensions upon retirement.
Dr Baah also highlighted the importance of discussing these issues with the President, as well as other key stakeholders. He emphasized that this is not a fight against the Board, but rather a push to ensure the proper management of pension funds.
In a cautionary note, Chairman of The Forum, Dr Bampoe Addo, called for politicians to refrain from misusing pension funds. He reminded everyone that pension funds belong to the members and must be carefully managed by the SSNIT Board.
It is clear that the outcome of the meeting between Organised labour and President Akufo-Addo will be crucial in addressing the concerns surrounding SSNIT and ensuring the security of workers’ pension funds.
