Former Ghanaian footballer, Charles Taylor, has caused quite a stir by stating that former Black Starlets coach, Laryea Kingston, is a better coach than current Black Stars coach, Otto Addo.
Kingston recently stepped down following the Black Starlets’ 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso in the WAFU B U-17 tournament. Taylor expressed his disappointment in Kingston’s decision, not only for himself but for Ghanaian coaches as a whole.
In an interview with Peace FM, Taylor explained, “Yes Ghana when you say the truth you become bad in the eyes of many but me I will say it to lie and get something I will speak the truth and get nothing. If you look at the type of coach and the way Laryea goes about his work he is better than Otto Addo.”
Taylor went on to praise other Ghanaian coaches such as Maxwell Konadu, Zito, and Yaw Preko, stating that with proper support, they could help elevate Ghanaian soccer once again. He emphasized the need for Kingston to provide a valid reason for his resignation, as many had high hopes for him.
The former footballer speculated that financial issues may have played a role in Kingston’s decision, but stressed that there are coaches in Ghana who continue to work diligently despite not being adequately compensated. Taylor urged Kingston to reconsider his resignation from the U-17 team and to show the same commitment that he and other Ghanaians have placed in him.
