Wingate University freshman basketball player died after being hit by a train Tuesday night, according to officials.
Honore, a May graduate of Potomac High School in Dumfries, Virginia, was a basketball player. According to the Washington Post, his three elder brothers all played basketball wore the number 11.
In a tweet, the Potomac basketball program wrote, “On behalf of the boys basketball team and the whole Potomac community, we offer our heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Coach Honore, the Honore family, Kyle’s friends and loved ones!” “Everyone will miss Kyle terribly.”
Wingate students may access counseling services, according to the school. School administrators indicated that details concerning a campus vigil and funeral services will be revealed after they were decided.
Honore died of his injuries on the route to the hospital, according to Bradshaw.
Honore had just arrived on campus on Sunday, according to an email from the school to The Charlotte Observer.
Wingate University is roughly 30 miles southeast of Charlotte in Union County.
Wingate police Chief Craig Bradshaw stated in a press statement that the eastbound train struck Kyle Honore at a crossing along North Camden Street just before 10:45 p.m.
