Following Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s resignation as Majority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, has expressed feelings of loss.
He observed that the unexpected resignation of the Suame MP from leadership had taken Parliament by surprise.
Dr. Ato Forson emphasized, however, how crucial it is to respect Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s choice and abstain from criticism.
After the former Majority Leader formally announced his resignation, Dr. Ato Forson gave a speech to the legislature in which he acknowledged how few people could match Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu’s depth of knowledge and experience when it comes to parliamentary practices and procedures.
He progressed through all levels of the Minority and Majority front benches of this august House, holding positions as Deputy Majority Whip, Majority Chief Whip, Deputy Majority Leader, and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs.
Many people, myself included, can vouch for his exceptional leadership, rigor, brilliance, and attention to detail. According to him, his colleagues have always respected and appreciated his particular blend of humanity and personability.
The Suame member of parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, formally announced his resignation from his position as majority leader during a Friday session of parliament.
He made it clear that, in contrast to what some media reports had speculated, his decision was wholly personal and unaffected by outside pressure.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu urged members of the Majority Caucus to fully support his successor, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, by offering all necessary assistance.
“On Wednesday, February 21, at a meeting with the caucus and the President, I formally announced my decision to resign as the Majority Leader to still the storm and facilitate the peace and unity for the party at this time,” he told reporters.
