On February 26, 1976, Ky-Mani Marley, a singer and musician from Jamaica, was born.

He is the only child of Bob Marley and Jamaican table tennis champion Anita Belnavis.

His name is derived from East Africa and means “Adventurous Traveler.” In 2001, he received a Grammy nomination for his album Many More Roads.

Ky-Mani Marley was born in Falmouth, Jamaica, to champion Jamaican table tennis player Anita Belnavis and reggae legend Bob Marley. At the age of nine, Ky-Mani and Belnavis relocated to Miami, Florida.

Ky-Mani was unaware of his musical talent because as a child, sports were his first love. At his mother’s insistence, he took piano and guitar classes and played trumpet in his high school band.

There was a bidding war for Marley. He joined Gee Street/V2 Records in 1997, where he collaborated with labelmate P.M. Dawn on the song “Gotta Be Movin’ On Up.”

Marley’s next album, The Journey, was released in 2000. In 2001, he embarked on a tour and issued his third studio album, Many More Roads, which received a Grammy Award nomination.
