Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi, suffered a defeat in his bid to secure the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidacy for the upcoming by-election in the Ejisu Constituency.

The seat became vacant following the passing of the constituency’s Member of Parliament, John Kumah, on March 7, 2024. Nyantakyi faced tough competition in the primaries, with Lawyer Kwabena Boateng emerging victorious with 393 votes. Nyantakyi, on the other hand, only managed to secure 35 votes out of a total of 1080 cast.

This outcome dealt a blow to Nyantakyi’s political ambitions as he fell short in his quest for the NPP candidacy. The final results of the primaries saw Boateng clinching the victory, followed by Mama Yaa Aboagye with 229 votes and Helena Mensah with 302 votes.
