Ghanaian midfielder Kwame Awuah shines in Loudoun United FC’s draw against Indy Eleven
Canadian-born Ghanaian midfielder, Kwame Awuah, put in an impressive performance for Loudoun United FC as they drew 1-1 against Indy Eleven in the USL Championship over the weekend.
Going into the match, Indy Eleven had a better record with 5 wins compared to Loudoun United’s 2, with no previous draws between the two teams. However, Awuah, who started the game at the Michael A. Carroll Stadium, showcased his stamina by playing the full 90 minutes.
The match was evenly contested with both teams maintaining equal possession of the ball, but Loudoun United managed to outshoot their opponents. The stalemate was finally broken in the 58th minute when Wesley Leggett of Loudoun United scored a header from the centre of the box, finding the bottom right corner thanks to an assist from Awuah.
Despite Loudoun United taking the lead, Indy Eleven fought back and managed to equalize in the 74th minute through Elliot Collier’s left-footed shot from the centre of the box, soaring into the high centre of the goal. Tyler Gibson provided the crucial assist for the goal.
Awuah, 28, has been a standout performer in the 2024 USL Championship, featuring in 18 games and providing four assists so far. Loudoun United FC will now shift their focus to their upcoming game against Charleston Battery as they look to continue their campaign in the Championship.
