Seth Kwame Acheampong, the Eastern Regional Minister, is optimistic that Kwahu Bepong schools will reopen by Wednesday.
Following a shooting incident on Sunday, February 4, the Kwahu South Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) ordered the closure of schools in Kwahu Bepong.
Two people lost their lives in the tragic incident, and numerous others were wounded by gunshots.
According to reports, the victims were struck by errant shots that the police fired in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region while attempting to scatter an antagonistic mob.
The police, who are still heavily present in the town, have taken 71 people into custody as a result of the incident.
As the police continue their investigation, the young people in the town have left the area out of fear of being arrested.
The Eastern Regional Minister assured Umaru Sanda Amadu during an interview on Eyewitness News on Citi FM that their efforts to guarantee that students return to school were intense.
The decision to temporarily close the schools was made, nevertheless, because the incident affected certain members of the school administration and caused anxiety among the parents.
Notwithstanding these obstacles, the Minister is optimistic that, thanks to continuous efforts to rectify the situation, students will be allowed to return to class by Wednesday.
“We are working hard to make sure that schools are reopened because the events have affected some members of the school administration and have raised concerns among some parents.
They are unwilling to consent to their wards attending school. Consequently, we are closing schools. He said, “But judging by the way we are handling this, I’m confident that by Wednesday, they should be back in school.”
