Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito has shared his thoughts on the current situation at Asante Kotoko, expressing his belief that it would not be wise for the club to part ways with coach Prosper Narteh Ogum.
After securing a 2-0 victory over Kotoko in Dawu, extending the Porcupine Warriors’ winless streak to seven games, Zito weighed in on the calls for Ogum to be sacked. Goals from Sylvester Simba and Derrick Atta Agyei ensured the win for Dreams FC, while Kotoko suffered their seventh loss in nine league matches, leaving them in 11th place on the table with 33 points.
Zito, speaking on Kessben FM, emphasized his support for Ogum, stating, “No one can tell me Prosper Narteh is not a good coach, he is a good coach. In football, there are moments that can be positive or negative, and that’s what’s happening with Ogum at the moment.”
He continued, “The fear of failure has gripped the players. If the situation does not change, the players might even feign injuries just to avoid playing. We are unable to make any signings or offload players at this moment, so we must make do with the squad we have until the end of the season.”
Zito urged all stakeholders at Kotoko to stand by Ogum, emphasizing the need for unity and support from the playing body and management. He also advised the team to focus on avoiding relegation rather than aiming for the league title.
Asante Kotoko currently sits in 11th place on the Ghana Premier League table with 33 points from 26 matches. They are set to face league leaders Samartex in their upcoming match on Sunday.
