KNUST SHS emerged as the winner of the prestigious ACE Spoken Word competition in the Ashanti region, showcasing their poetic prowess and creativity.
The competition, organized by the American Corner Kumasi of the US Embassy and ACE Consult, saw seventeen schools compete to showcase their public speaking and artistic poetry skills.
The final round of the competition featured KNUST SHS, Prempeh College, Yaa Asantewaa Girls, and Osei Tutu SHS, who impressed the audience with their poems about Ghana’s upcoming elections. The poems emphasized the importance of peacebuilding and unity before and after the polls, urging both citizens and political parties to uphold transparency and tolerance.
KNUST SHS took the lead in the first round, but Prempeh College gained momentum in the second round by answering general knowledge questions correctly. However, KNUST SHS sealed their victory in the final lap with their exceptional on-the-spot poetry recitals, leaving the judges and audience in awe.
In the end, KNUST SHS was named the best school in poetry for the Ashanti region, with Prempeh College coming in second, followed by Osei Tutu SHS and Yaa Asantewaa Girls. The Executive Director of American Corner Kumasi and ACE Consult, Marilyn Owusu, expressed optimism about the students’ potential to become the next generation of thinkers and authors, praising their creativity and talent.
Participants in the competition also noted the valuable experience gained from the event, highlighting the honing of their skills. The ACE Spoken Word competition not only provided a platform for students to showcase their talent but also fostered a sense of unity and creativity among the schools involved.
