Following Kirstie Alley’s passing from cancer at the age of 71, her Cheers co-stars Kelsey Grammer and Rhea Perlman led tributes to the late actress.

True and Lillie Parker, the daughters of the deceased, shared on Instagram yesterday, December 5, that their mother had passed away following a fight with an unspecified type of cancer.

As Rebecca Howe, Alley made her NBC sitcom debut in 1987. She quickly won fans for her performance opposite Ted Danson’s womanizing bar owner Sam Malone.

On January 12, 1951, Kirstie Louise Alley was born in Wichita, Kansas. She made her acting debut in 1982’s “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” as Lieutenant Saavik, a Vulcan officer. She later starred alongside Mark Harmon in the comedy “Summer School” in 1987.

In 1991, Alley won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for her role as the husky-voiced, no-nonsense waitress who took the position of Shelley Long’s Diane as the love interest for Ted Danson’s Sam Malone.
