The National Health Insurance Scheme in the Volta Region has reason to celebrate as the Ketu North Municipal Secretariat has been named the best-performing district in the country. Out of 172 districts nationwide, the secretariat emerged on top due to its exceptional work plan which led to increased membership and enhanced service delivery.
Municipal Director, Pope Yao Yevoo, has been awarded a certificate course in Health Policy Analysis at the Graduate School of the University of Ghana Business School as a prize for leading his team to this achievement. In an interview with Joy News, he credited the dedication of the workforce in the municipality for surpassing their targets for the year.
Yevoo highlighted the efforts put in place by the team, including establishing collaborations with the social welfare department, intensifying school and LEAP registration, and advocating for the use of the mobile renewal and My NHIS app to boost enrollment. He emphasized that the recognition motivates them to continue serving the community effectively.
Addressing concerns about the alleged collapse of the NHIS, Yevoo debunked the claims with solid data. Since taking on the role of manager in 2017, active membership in the district has increased significantly, from around 29,000 to approximately 97,000. Moreover, the number of service providers has also seen a rise from 22 to 25 in June 2024.
Yevoo expressed pride in the team’s accomplishment, especially considering their low staff strength compared to other districts. The recognition serves as a testament to the hard work and dedication put in by the team to ensure quality healthcare services reach those in need.
As the NHIS continues to play a vital role in providing healthcare access to Ghanaians, Yevoo’s leadership and the team’s efforts in Ketu North set a commendable example for others to follow in the sector.
