Ghanaians will have another Global Citizen experience this year, as the international education and advocacy organization plans to host “Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience Tour in 2024.”
According to a post on the Global Citizen page on X, the event will be held in Accra, Ghana, and Kigali, Rwanda.
The post also mentions Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo and PGLang, an independent American multidisciplinary creative communications firm, owned by American Grammy-winning rapper Kendrick Lamar.
“Accra, have you missed us? We have exciting news: #MoveAfrika is coming to Ghana in collaboration with President @NAkufoAddo and @pglang!”Accra will join Kigali, Rwanda, as a host city for the Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience tour in 2024, the organizers confirmed on X.
Move Afrika is a long-term initiative that will launch the first-ever international music tour across Africa, boosting economic investment, creating jobs, and encouraging entrepreneurship in each host country.
Global Citizen’s mission is to use intersectionality to catalyze the fight against extreme poverty while also promoting social justice and equity. Hugh Evans, Simon Moss, and Wei Soo founded the organization, which aims to increase the number and effectiveness of people who volunteer for the cause.
The inaugural Global Citizen Festival took place in New York in 2012. It was part of a campaign to end extreme poverty; fans can get free festival tickets by doing charitable acts on the website, such as watching videos and signing petitions.
Furthermore, the organizers hope to take the event “global” by live-streaming it in public places. Since 2015, the festival’s objectives have been closely aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which include 17 targets for eliminating extreme global poverty by 2030.
On Saturday, September 24, 2022, the festival moved to Ghana and took place at Accra’s Black Star Square.
