Kendall Gretsch was born with spina bifida, a congenital abnormality that affects the spinal cord, yet he was always active in sports, eventually discovering para-triathlon.
Gretsch was nominated for an Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award (ESPY) in the Best Female Athlete with a Disability category in 2015, the year she successfully defended her world title in her hometown of Chicago.
Kendall, a three-time PTWC world champion, earned the first Paralympic gold in her category in Tokyo 2020 following a thrilling sprint finish with Lauren Parker. She has also won the Winter Paralympics in Nordic skiing.
She has competed in both the Summer and Winter Paralympics, and she holds the distinction of winning gold medals in both.
