Ghanaian striker Kelvin Boateng saw red in a tough 1-0 loss for First Vienna against Dornbirn in the Austrian second division on Friday.
Boateng’s expulsion came in the final moments of the match at Stadion Birkenwiese.
Despite Vienna’s early control of the game, Dornbirn took the lead in the 34th minute thanks to Anteo Fetahu’s opportunistic goal after a defensive mistake, leaving Vienna goalkeeper Giuliani helpless.
The game was marred by several red cards, with Boateng, Jürgen Bauer, and Anes Omerovic all receiving their marching orders for Vienna, while Mateus Jesus was also sent off for Dornbirn.
Boateng had a significant impact on the game, with an early chance in the 2nd minute. However, Vienna failed to capitalize on their opportunities, with Daniel Luxbacher’s long-range effort missing the target in the 6th minute.
The defeat will have Vienna ruing missed chances, while Dornbirn will be pleased to strengthen their position in the league.
Boateng has been a key player for Vienna this season, making 19 appearances, scoring six goals, and providing two assists in the league so far.
