The Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Ellis Owusu-Dabo, has called for a deeper collaboration between KNUST and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) to address the gap in specialist healthcare services in the Ashanti Region.

Prof. Owusu-Dabo highlighted the disparity in specialist hospitals between the Ashanti Region and Greater Accra despite the region’s high population. He emphasized the importance of KNUST and KATH working together to tackle this challenge.

During a courtesy visit to the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, Prof. Owusu-Dabo, who chairs the KATH-KNUST Joint Standing Committee, praised the committee for promoting cooperation between the two institutions. He stressed the need for continued collaboration to meet the healthcare needs of the region.

Prof. Addai-Mensah acknowledged the symbiotic relationship between KATH and KNUST, highlighting the hospital’s role in providing clinical facilities for hands-on training for the university’s clinical programs. He emphasized the importance of leveraging the strengths of both institutions to enhance healthcare services.

The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof. Christian Agyare, discussed KNUST’s plans to construct an ultra-modern office and lecture hall complex at KATH as part of the School of Medical Sciences’ 50th-anniversary celebration. He reaffirmed the priority and strengthening of the partnership between KNUST and KATH.

The renewed spirit of unity between KATH and KNUST was commended, with a focus on improving the quality of healthcare services for the public. The collaboration between the two institutions is essential for the continued advancement of healthcare delivery in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
