Karine Jean-Pierre, an immigrant from Haiti is the first Black woman to serve in that position.

She has been on the American political scene since 2008 when she was the political director of southeast regional for John Edward’s presidential campaign 2008. Karine Jean-Pierre had served as the political director for the White House office of political Affairs.

In 2020, the new White House Press Secretary was the senior advisor on Joe Biden’s presidential campaign team.

Karine Jean-Pierre is gay and that makes her the first open LGBTQ+ person to serve in that role.

Karine Jean-Pierre grew up in Queens Village in New York City but she is of Haitian descent. She is the first child of three children.

Her younger brother, Chris Jean-Pierre is a fitness trainer. He is married to Miketa Hooper with two children. Chris has always cheered his elder sister up in his Instagram posts.

Edwine Soulay, her young sister is married with a son and currently stays in New York.
