Kanye West has already suffered the loss of friends, business partnerships, and billions of money; now he has also dealt with the loss of an honorary college degree when the School of the Art Institute of Chicago took it away.
Ye’s degree was revoked, according to a school letter acquired by TMZ, with the following justification: “His anti-Black, antisemitic, and incendiary statements, particularly those directed at Black and Jewish communities, are disgusting and condemnable”.
President Elissa Tenny continues in the letter, “As a community, we know that there are varying opinions on what our School’s response should be––even as we all agree that his behavior is indefensible.”
In recognition of his achievements and contributions to art and culture, the disgraced rapper received an honorary degree back in 2015. However, according to Tenny, “his actions do not align with SAIC’s mission and values.”
According to reports, students at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago initiated an online petition to remove the honorary certificate that has garnered over 4K signatures.
