Not one but fifty-two Yan Adaidaita Sahu, or commercial tricycle operators, have been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board for selling illegal drugs and substances, mixing genders in their tricycles, and having “immoral haircuts.”
Hisbah Command agents from various locations in Kano City captured the tricycle riders.
In an effort to rid the state of immoral practices like prostitution, drug abuse, selling, and alcohol consumption, among other things, the Hisbah command recently began an exercise known as “Operation Kau da Badala” (Operation Fight against Immorality).
52 tricycle riders were addressed by Mujahid Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of Hisbah, on Friday. He urged them to abstain from social vices in order to be good ambassadors of Kano State and Islam.
He said, “We would like to take this opportunity to beg that you refrain from doing anything that could damage the reputation of our religion and culture among the Kano people.”
To be honest, he believes that the tricyclists have committed immoral acts, driven around in only shorts, posted offensive posters on their cars, mixed up unrelated men and women, sold illegal drugs, and driven women to locations where they commit immoral acts, among other offenses.
“We Muslims would not approve of the behavior and mannerisms of the tricycle riders,” the speaker emphasized.
We have therefore summoned you to account for the harm these deeds are doing to the Kano people’s faith and culture in the interim.
He said that in order to apprehend the noncompliant tricyclists, the board would keep an eye out for any unlawful activity among them.
Per the reports, the tricycle riders were brought to the board’s headquarters, where they were reprimanded by representatives before being let go.
