A former freestyle wrestler and accomplished folkstyle wrestler, Kamarudeen Usman is a professional mixed martial artist of Nigerian and American descent. He was born on May 11, 1987. He was the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 21 tournament and currently competes in the welterweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he was previously the UFC Welterweight Champion. He is currently ranked first in the UFC men’s welterweight rankings as of November 14, 2022, and fourth in the men’s pound-for-pound rankings. Usman, a member of the 2010 U.S. University World Team, competed in freestyle wrestling primarily at 84 kilograms (185 lb). He competed for his university at 174 pounds (79 kg), was the 2010 NCAA Division II national champion, a three-time All-American, and qualified for the NAIA.

Usman began wrestling in his sophomore year at Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas. Usman got the nickname “Marty” when he joined the team because his wrestling coach at the time had difficulty pronouncing his first name, Kamarudeen, and it stuck with him throughout his amateur wrestling career.
