US Vice President Kamala Harris arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Sunday, March 26, 2023, to strengthen the important relationship and friendship between the United States and Africa.
In her address, the 58-year-old Californian-born expressed her excitement about the future of Africa and its impact on the rest of the world, considering that the continent’s median age is 19 years old. She believes that this represents great opportunities for growth, innovation, and possibilities not only for the people of Africa but for the world.
Harris however emphasized the partnership between the continent and the United States in addressing the climate crisis, supply chains, and international rules and norms. Her trip aims to increase investments and facilitate economic growth and opportunities, particularly in the areas of economic empowerment of women and girls, youth, entrepreneurship, digital inclusion, and increasing food security in the face of the climate crisis.
During her visit, Harris will meet with President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, President Suluhu Samiya of Tanzania, and President Hichilema of Zambia to strengthen democracy, good governance, promote peace and security, and enhance business ties.
She also looks forward to meeting with entrepreneurs, artists, students, and farmers to witness the extraordinary innovation and creativity occurring on the continent. She expressed her excitement to be here and thanked everyone for their warm reception.
