Kamala Devi Harris, an American politician and the 49th vice president of the country was born on October 20, 1964. Harris, who was born in Oakland, California, graduated from Howard University and the University of California Hastings College of the Law with law degrees, respectively.

She is the highest-ranking female official in American history and the first vice president who is not only female but also African-American and Asian-American. She served as California’s attorney general (AG) from 2011 to 2017 and as a senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. She is a Democratic Party supporter.

Harris served as California’s junior senator from 2017 to 2021. In the 2016 Senate election, she defeated Loretta Sanchez, becoming the first South Asian American and second African-American woman to hold the office.

Harris withdrew from consideration for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination before to the primaries. In the 2020 election, she and Joe Biden defeated the incumbent president and vice president, Mike Pence, by being his running mates. Presidents Harris and Biden took office on January 20, 2021.
