Work has finally begun on the reconstruction of the 23-kilometer Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta road, which will now be transformed into a dual carriageway as part of the N1 highway project.

Justmoh Construction Limited has been awarded the project, which also includes the construction of four major bridges and several culverts.

The funding for this project comes from GCB Bank PLC, and it is expected to be completed within 24 months, with a possibility of extension based on additional works from the client.

The neglect of the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta stretch of the National Highway 1 (N1) has been a source of public criticism towards the government. The deteriorating road condition coupled with the weakening of two major bridges led to the closure of the Ewusiejoe bridge for repair works. The presence of potholes and gullies caused numerous haulage trucks to tip over, leading to road blockages and posing serious threats to commuters and motorists.

The Western Regional Minister, Mr. Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah, responded to the public pressure by awarding the reconstruction contract to Justmoh Construction Limited. However, skepticism arose when no visible progress was seen on the road, despite some remedial works being carried out on the Ewusiejoe bridge by Justmoh workers. The company’s CEO, Dr. Justice Amoh, explained that there are various pre-construction processes involved before earthworks can commence on the site.

Dr. Amoh assured the public that the necessary equipment and machinery for the project are already in place at the Apremdo campsite, ready for use. He mentioned that earthworks will begin in a month, focusing on flattening, building up, and sloping the road location. Despite the anticipated challenges and inconveniences for road users during the construction period, Dr. Amoh encouraged cooperation and support from the public for a successful project completion.

The economic significance of the Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta road cannot be overlooked, as it serves as a vital link between the Takoradi Port and the mining and agriculture sectors of the Western and Western North Regions. Additionally, the road plays a crucial role in enhancing intra-African trade by connecting the Agona Nkwanta-Elubo road for seamless movement of goods and people to and from Ivory Coast.

As a Government of Ghana-funded project with the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) as the client, Dr. Amoh directed the media to GHA for detailed project information. Justmoh Construction is committed to executing the project efficiently and is open to ideas and suggestions that will contribute to its success.

he company seeks understanding from all stakeholders during the construction phase for the long-term benefit of the community.
