We are saddened to break the news of the sudden demise of Ghanaian professional footballer, Christian Atsu. His sudden demise was confirmed by his agent Murat Uzun Mehmet who stated that ‘Atsu has been found dead.’
Atu was a Ghanaian professional footballer who played for the Turkish Süper Lig club Hatayspor and the Ghana national team.
On 6 February 2023, the talented footballer who primarily played as a winger went missing in the immediate aftermath of the 2023 Turkey–Syria earthquake. The devastating earthquake that struck Turkey’s south-eastern border 12 days ago has claimed the lives of over 3000 people.
He was feared to be among those trapped under the rubble of Hatayspor’s headquarters in Antakya following the quake. After several days of missing, there were several reports that conflicted with Atsu’s fate. While some reports indicated he had been rescued, others denied these claims.
On Val’s day, February 14 2023, Atsu’s agent confirmed two pairs of his shoes had been found, but that Atsu himself had still not been found. On Saturday, February 18, 2023, Atsu’s agent confirmed that his dead body was found. He was 31 years old at the time of his death.
We are still following up on his death, we will update you as soon as we get important information surrounding it.
May his soul rest in peace.
