Joko Gvardiol, a professional football player for both the Croatian national team and Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, was born on January 23, 2002. He can play as a left-back and as a center-back.

When Gvardiol was seven years old, his father Tihomir, a former amateur football player in Novigrad, took him to  Trešnjevka to begin his football career. He was observed by Lokomotiva and Zagreb while there, but at the last minute, Dinamo Zagreb made him an offer, which his family accepted.

On November 9, 2022, Gvardiol was selected for Zlatko  Dalić’s 26-man team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. A day later, in a Bundesliga game against Freiburg, Gvardiol collided with Willi Orbán and cracked his nose. As a result, he was forced to wear a face mask during the tournament.
