Jewell played linebacker and running back in during his time at the Decorah High School in Decorah, Iowa. Jewell was vital in his team making appearances in back-to-back 3A State Title Games.
After impressive performances in high school, he opted to stay in his home state and committed to the University of Iowa. Jewell was chosen by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft and was later selected as the 14th linebacker.
He signed a four-year, $3.17 million contract with the Denver Broncos, which also included a $713,982 signing bonus.
