Gatt, a Maltese immigrant whose parents are Paola and Lija, was born on 3 December 1971 in the Notting Hill neighborhood of London. He spent his childhood summers in Malta with his family.

He learned he was colorblind as a teenager, which prevented him from achieving his goal of enlisting in the Royal Air Force and becoming a fighter pilot. He hypothesized that the anxiety brought on by this information may have also been the cause of his alopecia Universalis, which he was diagnosed with at the age of 12 and for which he had lost all of his hair by the time he was 14.

. Before enrolling in the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, he received acting instruction at the Sylvia Young Theatre School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Mountview from there.

Gatt’s first movie job following his graduation from theater school was in Orpheus & Eurydice, where he costarred with Oliver Reed in one of Reed’s final productions. He has been in numerous musicals both in the West End of London and on national tours.

He found work in the West End quite fast, playing the lead in plays like “Miss Saigon” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.” He secured the main role opposite Kristen Bell in the thriller “Pulse” as soon as he arrived in the country.

The motion capture actor and likeness for “Kratos” from the acclaimed “God Of War” video game franchise as well as the voice of “Lord Scourge” in the wildly successful “Star Wars: The Old Republic” are possibly Gatt’s two most well-known roles.

He most recently portrayed the Frost Giant antagonist “Grundroth” in Marvel’s box office sensation “THOR” in 2011, and he will next be seen playing the humanoid Starfleet “Science Officer 0718” in J.J. Abrams’ eagerly awaited sequel, “Star Trek Into Darkness.

Gatt’s significant television guest star credits include NBC’s “Chuck,” Fox’s “Breaking In,” Adult Swim’s “Eagleheart,” David E. Kelley’s NBC “Wonder Woman” pilot, and a fan-favorite recurring arc on Cinemax’s brand-new (2012) blockbuster series, “Banshee.”
