112421531 tv040946041According to Plaid Cymru leader Adam Price, an MP who assaulted his wife should resign and leave the party.

Jonathan Edwards, MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr, was suspended from the party following the attack in May 2020 but was recently readmitted.

Mr Edwards has stated that he will not be returning to the Plaid group of MPs at Westminster.

His wife, Emma Edwards, was “appalled” when Plaid announced he would be allowed to return to the party. Mr Edwards has chastised senior party members for “vindictive and vengeful” attacks.

The MP, who accepted a police caution, stated that he will regret his actions that day “to the end of my life.” He again added, “I would like to thank Emma Edwards for speaking out yesterday and let her know that her voice has been heard,”.

“I’d also like to apologise for the pain this has caused her and all domestic abuse survivors.”

He urged Mr Edwards to leave the party.

Mr Edwards was elected Plaid MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr for the first time in 2010. In the most recent election, he defeated the Conservatives by a margin of 1,809 votes.
