Jonathan Byrd was born in Anderson, South Carolina to James and Mary Jo Byrd. In 2019, his mother, who had been on a kidney transplant list for more than five years, was in need of a kidney. Byrd then took to social media to ask the public for help.
He has a brother named Jordan Byrd, who is an assistant golf coach at Clemson. Jordan, like his brother, is also an accomplished golfer, who reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Mid-Amateur.
