An anthropologist, activist, and musician from South Africa, Johnny Clegg also played in the well-known Savuka and Juluka bands. He is well renowned for his unique brand of music, which combines Zulu, English, and western influences with other styles and languages. He goes by the moniker Le Zoulou Blanc, which translates to “The White Zulu,” and is most known for classics like Johnny Clegg Impi.

Jonathan was born to an English father and a Rhodesian mother who later divorced. He then relocated to Zimbabwe with his mother and, when he was six years old, to South Africa. He also visited Israel for a while.

Mr. Clegg was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. After undergoing chemotherapy, the disease was claimed to be in remission two years later, at which point he started what was known as the Final Journey Tour, which took him to South Africa, the United States, Canada, and other countries.

After receiving a pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2015, Jesse Clegg’s father, Johnny Clegg passed away on July 16, 2019. He passed away at home in Johannesburg, surrounded by loved ones, and was buried the next day in Westpark Cemetery.
