Marsha and John West welcomed John West Jr. into the world in Chicago, Illinois.
The lone child is West. John, a major fan of NFL Chicago Bears Walter Payton, chose to play high school football after being persuaded by his mother Marsha.
After graduating from Robeson High School in Chicago in 1988, John West played a running back and went on to attend a tiny college in Alabama. Ray Green, West’s college head coach, switched West to cornerback. Ray Green, a college coach, observed West’s quickness and hitting prowess. West was signed as a Free Agent by the NFL L.A. Raiders after making an impression at the college level.
Later, West continued his career by signing up for the 1995 season of the World Football League of American Football after being selected by the London Monarchs. West, a WLAF product, made his Canadian Football League debut in the fall of 1995.
