The son of Pittsburgh Steelers founder Art Rooney, Sr., John Rooney, has died.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers did not immediately reveal any information on the death of John Rooney, a former team co-owner.
Rooney was the late Steelers chairman Dan Rooney’s brother and the uncle of team president Art Rooney II. Dan Rooney died in 2017 at the age of 84.
According to the Post-Gazette, with the death of Art Rooney, Sr. in 1987, the five Rooney brothers, including John, acquired a 16 percent stake in the team. The McGinley family held the remaining 20%.
According to the Post-Gazette, John Rooney sold all but 1% of his investment in the team in 2015.
