John Oates parents: Meet Ann De Palma and Al Oates
On April 7, 1948, John Oates was born in New York City. Ann De Palma, his mother, was an immigrant from Italy to the United States. Oates’ father, Al Oates, too came from a non-American family; his parents were from Gibraltar and England.
Oates’ family relocated to the Pennsylvanian town of North Wales when he was still a small child. Oates had a musical bent from an early age and picked up the guitar at a young age. At the time, he was influenced by the R&B artists in the Philadelphia area.
North Penn High School was his school. Following graduation in 1966, Oates pursued a journalism degree at Temple University. This is where he got to know Daryl Hall.
