John Morrison was an Australian police officer for the New South Wales Police Force. It was in the police force where he rose in ranks.

He moved from the rank of Chief Inspector, and local government politician who served as an alderman, deputy mayor, and mayor of the Municipality of Waverley.

He married Marion Elsie Smith on February 16, 1963, in Sydney. They had two sons together.

Morrison remained with the police force till he retired in May 1992. In August of the following year, he was appointed to serve on the Botany General Cemetery and Eastern Suburbs Crematorium Trust. His appointment came from the NSW Minister for Land and Water Conservation, George Souris.

He was reappointed in 1994, 1999, and 2004. He then served as Chairman of the Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park Board from 1 January 2005 to 3 August 2012.

Morrison was awarded the Centenary Medal for “service to the youth” in 2001. Three years later in 2004, in the 2004 Queen’s Birthday Honours, he was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for “service to the community of eastern Sydney.

He passed away at the age of 85 at his home in Bronte on January 22, 2020.
