The Legendary Australian runner, legally known as John Michael Landy AC CVO MBE FTSE, OLY, was the second man to break the four-minute mile barrier in the mile run and held the world records for the 1500-metre run and the mile race.
He was also the 26th Governor of Victoria from 2001 to 2006.
Among various achievements in athletics, Landy represented Australia at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics and the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
In 1954, Landy became the second man behind Roger Bannister to achieve a sub 4-minute mile.

In a statement to News Corp, Landy’s son Matthew Landy confirmed his father’s passing, saying: “Dad passed away peacefully on Thursday surrounded by what he loved most, his family and the Australian bush.”
“We are going to really miss him. He was not only a wonderful husband, but a wonderful father and he lived a wonderful life.
“It was a privilege to be his son and a privilege to be able to share some of his fascinating and wonderful life,” his statement added.
