American singer, songwriter, and guitarist John Cameron Fogerty was born on May 28, 1945. Together with his brother Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook, and Doug Clifford, he founded the band Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR).

He was the group’s primary songwriter, lead guitarist, and lead vocalist. CCR has eight gold albums, and nine top-10 singles between 1968 and 1972, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.

Since CCR’s dissolution in 1972, Fogerty has successfully pursued a solo career. He was named No. 40 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 Greatest Singers and Songwriters (at No. 72).
