Before he chose acting as his career permanently, he flirted with football for a while. Amos participated in the 1964 Continental Football League season with the Denver Broncos, Canton Bulldogs, Joliet Explorers, and Wheeling Ironmen.
He was discharged on the second day of training camp because he was unable to perform the 40-yard sprint due to a torn hamstring.
Amos also participated in 1966’s Atlantic Coast Football League games with the Norfolk Neptunes, Wheeling Ironmen, and Jersey City Jets.
He dumped football in the early 70s and focused on his acting career. A decision he has not regretted since.
